They MUST. For they are non equilibrium systems that are doing WORK (in the physics sense of the word). And none of biology makes sense if you don't use thermodynamics to understand the processes.CuriousCathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05892148471413222906noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4170594139101638027.post-53183288165473325912007-04-30T16:21:00.000-07:002007-04-30T16:21:00.000-07:00Living organisms obviously violate the Second Law,...Living organisms obviously violate the Second Law, especially when they evolve. It's an article of faith in creationism.

In physics you can't unscramble eggs to get whole eggs back. In biology you just feed the scrambled eggs to a chicken. Sane biologists know that it is done (as is the replication of DNA, with slight modification) via ordinary chemistry and physics in accordance with the ordinary laws. It would be really neat if life did have a way around the second law, but it just ain't so.

You must admit, though, that the slow materialization of an oak tree out of thin air could strike the uninitiated as contradictory to tending toward maximum randomness.

But if you said "Huh?" to that one, try this.

PeteAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4170594139101638027.post-35201822100577597342007-04-28T07:48:00.000-07:002007-04-28T07:48:00.000-07:00huh?:))huh?:))CuriousCathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05892148471413222906noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4170594139101638027.post-61996647118110843492007-04-27T21:41:00.000-07:002007-04-27T21:41:00.000-07:00Opposit happens else life would never come a full ...Opposit happens else life would never come a full circle :)Anil Phttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02422187314611747278noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4170594139101638027.post-73351603028671725662007-03-27T07:53:00.000-07:002007-03-27T07:53:00.000-07:00Thanks Tangled...did you get the "eureka" feeling ...Thanks Tangled...did you get the "eureka" feeling at the end of it?
